Heat Pumps & Air Conditioning

What brands do you supply and install?

We source equipment from some of the world’s leading manufacturers, including Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, and Rinnai. These brands are chosen for their reliability, energy efficiency, and availability of parts and support in New Zealand.

Choosing the right capacity depends on the size and layout of the room or building, insulation levels, ceiling height, and how the space is used. Our team will assess your property and recommend the right system — never too small (which causes overworking) or oversized (which wastes energy). Contact us for a free assessment.

Absolutely. Sona Air services and maintains all makes and models of heat pumps and HVACR systems, regardless of who originally installed them. Regular servicing keeps your system running efficiently and extends its lifespan.

Ventilation & Hot Water

What's the difference between positive pressure and heat recovery ventilation?

Positive pressure ventilation (PPV) draws filtered air from the roof space and pushes it into the home, reducing moisture and condensation — a common and cost-effective option for NZ homes.

Heat recovery ventilation (HRV) exchanges stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air while recovering the heat from the outgoing air, making it more energy-efficient and better suited to well-insulated or airtight homes. Our team can advise which is best for your property.

A heat pump hot water system extracts heat energy from the surrounding air and uses it to heat water in a storage cylinder — similar to how a refrigerator works, but in reverse. It uses significantly less electricity than a traditional element-based hot water cylinder, typically delivering around 3-4 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity consumed. It’s one of the most efficient ways to heat water in New Zealand.

Quotes, Installation & Pricing

How do I get a quote?

Simply fill in the request form on our website, call us on 022 192 9318, or email admin@sonaair.co.nz. We’ll arrange a site visit or phone consultation to understand your requirements and provide a written quote. There’s no obligation.

Most standard residential heat pump installations are completed within a half day to one full day. More complex installations — such as multi-room systems, commercial air conditioning, or design-and-build projects — will take longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe as part of your quote.

We work efficiently and cleanly, aiming to minimise disruption at all times. Our team will discuss the installation plan with you before work begins so you know what to expect. For commercial projects, we can often schedule work outside business hours where required.

Warranties & After-Care

What warranties do you offer?

All equipment we supply carries the manufacturer’s warranty — coverage varies by brand and product but is typically 5 years on parts for leading brands like Daikin and Mitsubishi. In addition, Sona Air provides a 12-month workmanship warranty on all installation work. We recommend keeping your installation paperwork for warranty purposes.

We recommend a professional service once a year, ideally before the season you’ll use the system most (e.g. before winter for heating). Regular servicing improves efficiency, reduces energy bills, maintains air quality, and can prevent costly breakdowns. Filter cleaning is something homeowners can do themselves every 4-6 weeks.

First, check the basics — is the unit powered on, are the filters blocked, has a circuit breaker tripped? If the issue persists, contact us on 022 192 9318 or email admin@sonaair.co.nz and we’ll arrange a diagnostic visit. Don’t attempt to repair the system yourself, as this may void your warranty.
